چکیده

Interactions in thin liquid foam films and between solid/liquid surfaces coated with the non-ionic surfactant hexaoxyethylene dodecylether (C12E6) were investigated with a TFPB (thin film pressure balance) and the MASIF (Measurement and Analysis of Surface Interaction Forces) technique, respectively. For foam films the formation of common black films (CBF) and Newton black films (NBF) was observed depending on the surfactant concentration and the applied pressure. With increasing surfactant concentration and increasing pressure the CBF is destabilized, whereas a stabilization of the NBF is observed. In addition, MASIF measurements with two different hydrophobic surfaces were made. In one case silanated glass surfaces and in the other case thiolated gold surfaces were used. Differences and similarities of the interactions between these two surfaces are shown and discussed. Furthermore, the results of the MASIF measurements are compared with the ones of the thin film pressure balance measurements and the influence of the surfactant concentration on the interactions is discussed.

Thermodynamics of adsorption of surfactants at solid-liquid interface

Adsorption of surfactants at interfaces is detenIlined by a number of forces involving electrostatic attraction, covalent bonding, hydrogen bonding, hydrophobic bonding and solvation and desolvation of various species. The extent and type of forces involved vary depending on the adsorbate and the adsorbent and also the composition and other characteristics of the solvent and dissolved component...

Influences of surfactant and nanoparticle assembly on effective interfacial tensions.

We have studied assembly at air-water and liquid-liquid interfaces with an emphasis on systems containing both surfactants and nanoparticles. Anionic surfactants, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and non-ionic surfactants, Triton X-100 and tetraethylene glycol alkyl ethers (C(8)E(4), C(12)E(4) and C(14)E(4)), effectively decrease the surface tension of air-water interfaces. The inclusion of negativ...

Adsorption Behavior of Surfactant Mixtures at Solid-Liquid Interface

Behavior of surfactant mixtures at solid-liquid interfaces was investigated using anionic-nonionic and catjonic-nonionic surfactants of different structures. The results show that adsorption of nonionic surfactants on alumina was enhanced significantly by the coadsorption of ionic surfactants. The adsorption beha vior of these binary surfactant mixtures was dependent upon the ratio of the two s...

Interaction and micellar behavior of aqueous mixtures of surface active ionic liquid and cationic surfactant: experimental and theoretical studies

The interaction between an ionic liquid (1-dodecyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide or IL) and cationic surfactant (dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB)) in aqueous solution has been investigated at various mole fractions and temperature 30 ˚C using experimental and theoretical methods. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) of pure components and their binary mixtures, mixed micellar compositi...
